PBA Result: Rain or Shine vs Meralco Bolts October 30 2011

IN a single game, Rain or Shine registered a PBA all-time record and four new franchise marks.

The outcome was so one-sided that Mark Cardona and Sol Mercado should have decided not to suit up.
As a result, the two superstars have merely become footnotes.

Rain or Shine emphatically set a new league record for most three-point shots converted in a game,
and with it went on to record its biggest margin of victory, its highest output and best field-goal
percentage in franchise history last night, tearing Meralco apart right in the first half on its way
to a 139-95 triumph in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

The Elasto Painters knocked in 22 three-point shots to establish a fresh record since the PBA
reverted to the old and farther rainbow country line of 22 feet in the 2009-10 season. They fell
just one three-point shot short of matching the 23 defending champion Talk ‘N Text accomplished
twice (2007-08 and 2008-09) when the league went along with the 20.5 distance of the FIBA rules.

Rain or Shine converted another all-time record 13 in the opening two quarters to set the tone of
the lopsided, unforgiving contest that witnessed valuable contribution from about every player
fielded by coach Yeng Guiao.

Ronjay Buenafe scored 15 of his 24 points in the breakaway second quarter, and rookie Paul Lee got
the better end of his highly-anticipated confrontation with Sol Mercado with a balanced production
of 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the Elasto Painters nailed down their fifth win with
only a single loss to show.

The manner by which Rain or Shine pulled off the victory came as a disbelief even to Guiao and the
rest of the franchise, who were expecting the Bolts to come out in vengeance mode after winning
their first meeting in the season-opening tournament last Oct. 19, 89-84.

“I haven’t seen a game like this in a long time,” Guiao said. “The whole team was in a zone
and I didn’t expect this from the start. Nagulat kami. Kahit kami hindi namin akalain.”

The game began with a three-point shot from Beau Belga, and the scoring for the Elasto Painters at
the end of the first and second quarters were capped by similar ways. Through the first 24 minutes
of action, Rain or Shine buried 13 three-pointers for 39 points, more than half of its output at the
break (68-41).

“What really makes it for us is our defense,” Guiao said. “This is a sign of maturity of the
team.”

Jeff Chan added 20 points and Belga had 14 on 4-of-4 shooting from rainbow country. Jervy Cruz and
Ronnie Matias each contributed 10 points. Gabe Norwood had nine assists and seven points.

The Elasto Painters, who led by as huge as 45 points (101-56), also shot 53 of their 80 attempts
from the floor for a franchise record of 66 percent clip.

Meralco, which appeared to be drifting higher in performance after the return of Mercado and Mark
Cardona, suffered its worst defeat since joining the PBA family last season.

Cardona had 25 points, Nerlbert Omolon 13, and Mercado 12 for the Bolts, who walked into the contest
noted for their defense having limited opponents to an average output of 80 points.

Against Rain or Shine, though, the Bolts’ defense was non-existent.

They couldn’t pinpoint which player to defend, couldn’t box out in the battle off the boards,
and simply couldn’t stop the Elasto Painters from draining three-point shots one after the other.

In each of every quarter, Rain or Shine scored at least 33 points.

The Bolts dropped to a 4-3 (win-loss) record. (ZM)

The scores:

Rain or Shine 139 - Buenafe 24, Chan 20, Lee 19, Belga 14, Cruz 10, Matias 10, Quinahan 10, Norwood
7, Rodriguez 7, Arana 6, Ibanes 5, Jaime 4, Uyloan 3.

Meralco 95 - Cardona 25, Omolon 13, Mercado 12, Espinas 12, Isip 9, Hugnatan 9, Laete 4, Faundo 3,
Yee 3, Macapagal 3, Ballesteros 2, Taulava 0, Borboran 0.

Quarterscores: 33-20, 68-41, 106-64, 139-95.

Cotto vs Margarito 2 Fight on December 3 2011

An HBO pay-per-view bout between WBA Super World light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito is finally hitting our jaws on the 3rd day of December 2011. And the fact that HBO is going to cover this fight between Cotto whose got a record of 36-2, 29 KO’s against Margarito’s 28-7, 27 KO’s means that more boxing fans will be able to watch the Cotto vs Margarito 2 fight online.

Meanwhile as we all can remember Antonio Margarito suffered a serious injuries cause by his fight against the Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao. Margarito during his December fight with Pacquiao last yeara caused him serious injury. His broken right orbital will surely be a sort of hindrance for him. I somehow admire Margarito with his bravery in taking this rematch against Cotto despite his threatening serious injuries. And Because of that I will watch Cotto vs. Margarito 2 online via live streaming. But for those who want to buy tickets for Cotto vs Margarito fight, just go on and you will feel the rush in stage.

This Cotto vs Margarito 2 fight clearly shows that Margarito is serious to get back in the boxing track. But it seems to all of us that this fight is being pushed to quick. It somehow lacks of interesting things, besides what can we expect from it knowing the fact that Margarito has this injuries that can actually lead to his defeat. I mean come on.. chances for Cotto to win in this rematch is rising to 60 percent (for me I guess).

Also like me you wish to watch Cotto vs Margarito weigh in so we make a decision regarding with the bet and who’s my hands gonna off. This weigh in shall go on HBO, and I will follow that till the end of fight.

Since the Cotto vs Margarito 2 fight isn’t that exciting, they need to make sure that their December 3 fight will give their viewers a quality set of undercard bouts which in turn can make us feel that this game is somehow worthy for PPV or atleast something to that effect. Who’s to blame if majority of boxing aficionados isn’t thinking that Margarito is not much of a big deal when it comes to boxing? Since he (Margarito) got beaten by Manny Pacquiao two years ago, he hadn’t made any noise by beating up any big names in the business. And there goes Cotto who seemed to be a just a moving punching bag during his fight, also with Manny Pacquiao. Both Margarito and Cotto suffered the same fate in the hands of the pound for pound king and that could be one of the reason why the Cotto vs Margarito2 fight sounds no excitement at all.

PBA Result: B-Meg Llamados vs Barako Bull October 29 2011

Barako Bull showed more energy in a draining out-of-town battle here
with B-Meg Saturday night, escaping with an overtime win and a piece of tournament leadership.

The Energy outlasted the Llamados, 87-84, and drew level with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and
the Talk n Text Tropang Texters atop the PBA Philippine Cup leader board at 4-1.

Willie Miller came through with 18 points and four rebounds, leading Barako Bull past B-Meg in the
Panabo stop of the Phoenix Fuel PBA on Tour.

Barako Bull stretched its streak to four games as it emerged slightly better than B-Meg in an
error-filled finish of their match at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Sports and Tourism Center.

The Energy got away with the three-point decision with the Llamados missing a shot and committing
three errors in the final 1:25 of play.

The winning team itself ran into a maze of errors but pulled through as they went ahead to stay,
86-84, on a tough shot by Wynne Arboleda off Josh Urbiztondo with still 1:07 left.

B-Meg forced the extension play as James Yap knocked in a three-pointer with 1.8 ticks left in
regulation.

Barako still managed to get at shot in the closing seconds but Miller missed the target.

The regulation play was marked by several momentum shifts with B-Meg opening the game with a 7-0
run, Barako sparking a second-quarter chase and the two teams trading more runs in the final half.

Ironically, the game dulled in overtime.

Kerby Raymundo accounted for two grievous errors, the second coming off a timeout with B-Meg looking
to force a second OT.

He issued a pass intended for James Yap that landed in the hands of Jondan Salvador.

Sent to the stripe on a quick B-Meg foul, Salvador canned the first charity then deliberately missed
the second that – again ironically – gave the Llamados another lifeline.

The Energy eventually won the game with Yap missing an attempt in the final second.

Don Allado became the 29th player in league history to accumulate at least 1,000 offensive rebounds
in the contest.

PBA Result: Meralco Bolts vs Alaska Aces October 28 2011

MERALCO beat the best team in its last outing. The Bolts definitely wouldn’t forgive themselves
had they lost to a winless ball club.

Pounding the boards hard and getting big games from the returning Mark Cardona and Chico Lanete,
Meralco outlasted Alaska Friday night, 81-75, for first back-to-back win in the PBA Philippine Cup
at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Bolts out-rebounded the Aces, 54-28, while Cardona and Lanete combined for 17 points in the
fourth quarter to deal Alaska its fifth straight defeat, its worst start in an all-Filipino
tournament according to statistical records since 1992.

“The defense we have been talking about bailed us out again,” said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio.
“We wanted to make sure that we build our character in this game. We battled the best team in our
last game and we won, and the challenge was to win against a struggling team.”

The Bolts were fresh from an 80-70 victory over Petron, earning bragging rights as the first
ballclub to tarnish the Boosters’ erstwhile undefeated record. Last night, they met a team trying
hard to re-discover its rhythm under a new head coach in Joel Banal, and the Aces nearly succeeded
snapping out of a slump when they led by as high as 10 points, 52-42.

But Meralco nibbled its way back and was solid down the stretch. The Bolts forced the Aces to come
out empty-handed in their last three possessions in a clear testament over how vastly the franchise
has improved at the defensive end.

Yet more than anything else, the Bolts pummeled the Aces in the rebounding department, pulling down
54 to Alaska’s mere 28. The Bolts also had 13 more offensive rebounds.

“We’re playing with a near complete roster with Mac-Mac back and Chico again coming into play
when Sol was grounded,” Gregorio said. “But pretty much it was a total team effort. This just
goes to show that you can’t just guard one player here in Meralco because anybody can make a
difference.

“Also, the crucial thing is that we had more rebounds. It just goes to show what kind of intensity
we have.” Lanete finished with 17 points and Mark Isip and Cardona each added 10 for Meralco. Sol
Mercado contributed eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Sonny Thoss collected 19 points and six rebounds, Cyrus Baguio had 18 points and Jay-R Reyes
contributed 11 points and eight rebounds for Alaska.

It was, indeed, an unusual ending for the Aces. A team noted for its poise lost its composure late
in the game, with Tony De La Cruz bungling an open jumper and Baguio committing a turnover while
trying to outmaneuver a defender with a crossover move when Meralco was only ahead by 78-75.

The error by Baguio led to two gift shots by Gabby Espinas. Espinas knocked in both with 11 seconds
left, and Thoss missed a hook shot in the ensuing possession. (ZM)

The scores:

Meralco (81) - Lanete 17, Isip 10, Cardona 10, Mercado 8, Espinas 8, Omolon 8, Macapagal 7, Borboran
4, Taulava 4, Ballesteros 3, Yee 2, Faundo 0.

Quarterscores: 20-19, 36-36, 52-56, 81-75.

PBA: B-Meg Llamados vs Powerade Tigers October 26 2011 Result

A LITTLE freedom can go a long way, as B-Meg head coach Tim Cone just pleasantly found out.

Allowing his players more leeway to create their own situations and differentiating from his usual
starting unit a bit, Cone was rewarded by the Llamados with a 97-80 win over Powerade Wednesday in
the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

PJ Simon was reverted back to his usual off-guard spot but still among B-Meg's starters and promptly
responded by starring on both ends of the court, scoring a game-high 21 points and anchoring some
fine defensive efforts.

"We decided to kind of shelf our unconventional lineup, which is not having a pure point guard. We
decided to change that today and that got everybody back into their comfort zone," related Cone, who
started Josh Urbiztondo as playmaker in lieu of Simon.

As a direct result, B-Meg improved its win-loss record to 2-3 and tied Powerade, which absorbed its
second straight setback.

James Yap added 20, the bulk coming in a first quarter breakaway, before the likes of rookie Mark
Barroca and Joe Devance joined in and helped get the job done.

All the while, Simon anchored the defense on Gary David and Marcio Lassiter before joining hands
with Urbiztondo in quashing the Tigers' fightback from as much as a 29-point deficit, earning
special mention from Cone.

"I thought PJ came out and became a committed defender. He did a great job on Gary and also Lassiter
in the first half," said Cone.

The way his charges generally played a great game also pleased Cone no end as the specter of a third
straight loss was easily dispelled.

"We talked about putting a good one together and we did put a good one together," he stated, already
looking ahead at their next game against Barako Bull in Panabo City on Saturday.

"I hope we can play better then than what we did today," said Cone. "I'm pleased with our effort,
especially our defense."

Lassiter scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half and had Sean Anthony as main
partner during a torrid run that brought Powerade within 65-74, still 7:08 remaining in the game.

Anthony had two triples and eight of his total 13 points while Lassiter added six points off his
three steals in that stretch that whittled what was a 68-48 B-Meg lead after the third period.

Then Urbiztondo buried a wide open trey and found Simon for a triple and a layup that jacked their
lead back up to 17.

"We were holding the ball too long, allowing us to get rushed," said Cone. "Then Josh hit that 3 and
Simon hit his own and that settled us back down. That's what our second group was supposed to do."

Devance's four points came during an 8-5 surge that put the outcome fully beyond doubt 90-70, only
2:22 left.

David missed his first six shots and wound up with seven points. He did not buy a baskiet until the
last 6:43 mark of the third period and wound up shooting 3-for-13 from the field for his lowest
output in the last five conferences.

JVee Casio was also shaky in only his second game from the knee injury that sidelined him in
Powerade's first three games. The star playmaker for the national team missed his first six shots
and wound up with only five points.

The burden of providing the needed points fell on the shoulders of Anthony, who had a triple in a
7-0 run winding up the third canto that cut what was an imposing 41-68 deficit.

It was Yap in the first quarter before Simon took the lead in the second period. The two-time MVP
scattered 12 of his points in the opening period, including five that sparked a 9-0 run from a 2-5
deficit. He added seven more during a 13-4 close out.

The hole dug by Powerade when it made just three of its first 17 shots got deeper as the game wore
on and as B-Meg grew hotter.

By the time Simon buried his first triple and Rico Maierhofer looped in a twinner, it was a 38-18
difference which B-Meg stretched to 46-25 at the half. The lead got stretched even more when the
Llamados scored the first eight points of the third period. (NC)

The scores:

B-MEG 97 - Simon 21, Yap J. 20, Barroca 11, De Vance 10, Urbiztondo 9, Raymundo 7, Pingris 6, Yap R.
6, Reavis 5, Maierhofer 2, Acuna 0.

POWERADE 80 - Lassiter 15, Anthony 13, Kramer 8, Cruz 8, Lingganay 7, Vanlandingham 7, David 7,
Adducul 7, Casio 5, Antonio 3, Calimag 0, Crisano 0.

Quarterscores: 24-9, 46-25, 68-48, 97-80

Pinoy boxers in SEA Games 2011

Filipino amateur boxers are looking forward to a good showing in the coming 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Indonesia.

Amateur boxing has been one of the Philippines’ medal-rich events in SEAG.

The country garnered 9 medals – 5 golds, 1 silvers, and 3 bronzes – in the last edition of SEAG in Laos.

The Philippine team, which recently finished its training in England, admitted that it would be difficult to duplicate the feat.

ABAP will field to SEAG a 10-man team composed of 6 male and 4 female boxers.
Among the 10, Josie Gabuco, Alice Apari and Nesthy Petecio are favored to garner medals for the country.

Male boxers Charlie Suarez, Rey Saludar and 18-year-old Olympic qualifier Mark Anthony Barriga are also expected to deliver.

ABAP said the biennial event will be a good momentum boost for the 2012 Asian Olympic qualifiers before the 2012 London Olympics.

Pacquiao-Marquez III

Michael Koncz, the business adviser of Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, has confirmed that a rematch clause is included in the contract of Pacquiao's trilogy bout against Juan Manuel Marquez.

"How unintelligent would it be, if we did not include a rematch clause just in case of some freak accident?" Koncz told RingTV.com.

Koncz explained that a rematch clause was included in the contract to protect Pacquiao, "just in case some freak things happen in the fight."

He cited the recent Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz bout, wherein Mayweather controversially knocked out Ortiz in the fourth round.

"They (Team Ortiz) made a mistake against Mayweather by not putting a rematch clause there," Koncz said.

But Koncz clarified the rematch clause does not mean they are worried about the result of the November 12 fight.

"It has nothing to do with any doubt as to whether or not we think Manny’s going to win. It's just smart. It's just good business," Koncz said.

"There's no doubt in my mind that Manny's going to win this fight."

PBA: Rain or Shine vs Powerade Tigers October 9 2011 Result

RAIN or Shine used to break down during crunch time.

Two games into the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup, the Elasto Painters have remained rock-solid down the
stretch.

Rain or Shine put together a pair of critical stops late in the game Sunday night, surviving another
tense outing in a 96-93 victory over Powerade and joining Petron Blaze at the top of the standings
with its second straight win before a conference-high 10,121 fans at the Ynares Center in Antipolo
City.

A ballclub not necessarily noted for its defense, the Elasto Painters forced the Tigers to commit a
24-second shot-clock violation with 33 ticks left to play, and Jeff Chan came through with a
perfectly-timed rejection off a potential overtime-sending three-point shot by Gary David at the
deep right corner, securing their second straight win.

David, the reigning scoring champion, actually recovered the ball after the block, but was pressed
for time to launch another attempt, and his shot didn’t even hit the rim as time expired.

In pulling off the win, Rain or Shine escaped another thriller of an encounter just like the
opening-day victory it recorded against Ginebra, 94-93.

“I consider this as a good sign,” said Painters’ coach Yeng Guiao. “We’re winning close
games. Before our tendency was to collapse but now we proved that we can close out close games.”

Rookie Paul Lee, who debuted in sensational manner with 21 points and eight assists, wasn’t at his
finest decision-making form. He took an ill-advised three-point shot late in the game when Powerade
was already at penalty, and failed to get into a rhythm early because of foul trouble.

But the former University of the East standout who was picked No. 2 in the August Draft still came
away with a game-high 19 points marked by his first connection from the three-point area, an output
he shared with Chan.

“Paul Lee made one or two misjudgements,” said Guiao. “He’s still a rookie, but as I said
he’s special. He’s getting together well with our players and maganda naman ang samahan. The
chemistry is getting better.”

Yet it was Lee who gave Rain or Shine the breather it needed. He knocked in two pressure-filled free
throws with 57 seconds to go to make it a 96-93 ball game.

In the ensuing play, the Elasto Painters defended the shaded lane superbly, foiling attempts by
David and Marcio Lassiter for the 24-second turnover.

Rain or Shine was left with 33 seconds in the gameclock, and Lee was the one tasked to take the
shot. But instead of driving to the basket and fishing for a foul, Lee launched a three-point shot
at the top of the key that missed, leaving Powerade with eight seconds and the chance to send the
game into extra time.

Jireh Ibanes fouled Cruz four seconds into the Tigers’ possession, and Powerade’s opening to
send the game into overtime was obvious: convert the first attempt and deliberately miss the second
and hope for an offensive rebound.

But Cruz’s first shot rattled out, forcing him to intentionally muff the second. The incident
nearly turned out to be a blessing in disquise after David grabbed the loose ball. David swiftly set
off to the right corner for the potential game-tying triple, but Chan sprinted to reject the shot.

Gabe Norwood added 11 points which came with 10 rebounds and six assists and Ryan Arana had 10.

Doug Kramer scored 16 points and grabbed 14 boards to lead Powerade while David was held to only 14
points after scoring 31 in a 98-87 win over Shopinas last Wednesday.

The scores:

Rain or Shine 96 - Lee 19, Chan 19, Norwood 11, Arana 10, Quinahan 9, Rodriguez 8, Belga 7, Buenafe
6, Ibanes 3, Cruz 2, Matias 2.

Powerade 93 - Kramer 16, David 14, Anthony 13, Lingganay 12, Lassiter 12, Calimag 11, Cruz 7,
Martinez 3, Adducul 3, Crisano 2, Allera 0, Antonio 0.

Quarterscores: 21-21, 40-39, 68-65, 96-93.

for time to launch another attempt, and his shot didn’t even hit the rim as time expired.
