Pinoy Pride 9 Result: Nietes wins 2nd world title

Filipino light flyweight Donnie “Ahas” Nietes won his second world title by securing a unanimous decision against Mexico’s Ramon Garcia Hilares on Saturday at the St. La Salle coliseum in Bacolod City.

Nietes nabbed the WBO light flyweight crown by outscoring Garcia Hilares in the main event of Pinoy Pride 9.

Judges scored the bout 115-113, 118-110 and 117-111 all in favor of Nietes.

Nietes, who used to be a janitor at the ALA Gym, is the former WBO minimum-weight champion.

He relinquished the crown after climbing to the light flyweight level.
AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Albert Pagara also won their respective bouts in the undercard of Pinoy Pride 9.

Banal retained his WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title by beating Mexican Mario Macias, while Pagara, a late replacement for the injured Arthur Villanueva, defeated East African Shaaban Madilu.

Pinoy Pride 9 will be aired by ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday starting 10:15 a.m
